Massachusetts Tax Relief Deal Struck, Bill Expected Next Week

Last night, House Speaker Ron Mariano (D-Quincy) and Senate President Karen Spilka (S-Ashland) announced that both branches have reached an agreement on the tax relief bill that has been in conference committee since June.

In a joint statement, Speaker Mariano, President Spilka, Joint Committee on Ways and Means Chair Rodrigues and Chair Michlewitz stated, “In an effort to provide meaningful financial relief to the Commonwealth’s residents and businesses, we are thrilled to announce that an agreement has been reached in principle that reconciles the differences between the House and Senate tax relief packages. We look forward to filing and taking up the conference report next week, which responsibly implements our shared goal of making Massachusetts more affordable, equitable, and competitive.”

Please note, while supportive of any effort to reform the Commonwealth’s archaic estate tax, the Association remains neutral regarding these two pieces of tax relief legislation.

Details on the legislation have not yet been released. We will update you as we learn more. As always, don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.
