Program Overview

Mass Bankers presents the 2026 School of Commercial Lending. Each year, the School covers a comprehensive program that prepares students to work effectively within the commercial lending field. Over the course of five days, students will study risk appetite, risk tolerance, risk culture and loan portfolio evaluation from the critical perspective of the modern commercial lender. The school will cover foundational topics while also extensively exploring more advanced credit underwriting techniques in establishing sound credit discipline and the assessment of borrower risk.

Who Should Attend?

New Commercial Lenders and Commercial Lending Staff

Suggested Prerequisites

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in commercial lending, or
  • A minimum of 1 year in credit administration in a bank, or
  • 5 years of banking experience, or
  • Successful completion of Fundamentals of Commercial Lending course

Graduation Requirements

  • Attendance at all sessions, and
  • Completion of all assignments, and
  • Passing grade on final exam

Attending the Program

Registration includes all instruction, casebook, supplemental materials, and meals. A room block is not available at this time. For accommodations, please contact the hotel directly. It is recommended to bring a graphing calculator and a laptop to class. 

Express Grant

The course ID for the School for Commercial Lending is C-9675. Banks with 50 or fewer employees can be reimbursed 100 percent for the program's cost. Ron Rushing
<p>Ron Rushing is the President of Rushing Consulting Group, LLC in Sparta, Missouri. During his banking career he has served as a safety and soundness examiner, a commercial loan officer, director of loan review/internal audit and Chief Credit Officer. &nbsp;He is a frequent speaker for state banking associations on topics including commercial lending, credit risk management, cash flow/financial statement analysis and loan documentation. &nbsp;Ron holds a BA from Drury University in Springfield, MO and a MBA from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO. &nbsp;Ron is also a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking Boulder, Colorado.</p>

<p>Tom Wiley founded T-Wiley Advisors, LLC, after retiring from a 35-year career in bank supervision with the FDIC and is now engaged in industry training and consulting. &nbsp;Tom’s background includes all levels of bank supervision, including field operations, regional offices, and Washington DC headquarters, covering community banks as well as large, regional institutions. &nbsp;</p><p>Tom’s experience with enforcement actions, liquidity, interest rate risk, and large financial institution monitoring was relied on for training including symposiums for bank directors and industry outreach addressing corporate governance, strategic planning, policy formation, and various regulations. &nbsp;</p><p>Tom was recognized with various awards for superior work, including as the 2015 Washington FDIC Employee of the Year. &nbsp;Tom graduated with honors from the Graduate School of Banking in Boulder, Colorado, and Drury University, Springfield, Missouri, and was honored to be selected and complete the Executive Potential Program administered by the Leadership Development Academy of the USDA Graduate School. &nbsp;<br>&nbsp;</p>
