For close to 45 years, Mass Bankers has worked to offer record retention guidance -- a very specialized function with few sources of comprehensive guidance available. This year, we are pleased to have once again teamed up with Carl Pry, a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager and Certified Risk Professional, to develop the 7th Edition of our Bank Record Retention Quick Notes. This year's edition is designed to be a fast and easy-to-use reference on the most common types of records questions that bankers encounter in a completely DIGITAL* format!

The Quick Notes refer to federal or general industry practices in six broad topic areas: General; Deposits and Operations; Loans; Securities; Human Resources; and Tax. They also contain the available requirements of FinCEN, CFPB, OCC, NACHA, IRS, SEC, FDIC, FRB and other relevant state agencies.

Including numerous changes when compared to its predecessor, the new 7th edition is further streamlined to assist bankers at every level. Notable revisions include:

  • New records added to better protect banks over appropriate time periods in case of potential regulatory enforcement and/or litigation.
  • Various requirements were re-researched and confirmed for continued accuracy.
  • Updates to retention-related federal laws and regulations since the last edition, particularly in light of the dynamic regulatory environment over the past few years.
  • Numerous 'best practice' suggestions were added to the guide. **Note** While 'best practices' are not requirements as specifically listed in any federal law or regulation, they are provided as strong suggestions for such recommended retention in many of the associated rules.
