Program Overview

Federal and state regulators have focused much attention on “junk fees.” However, understanding precisely what this term means and what kinds of fees might be a problem can be confusing. This webinar will explore the current and proposed regulatory guidance on junk fees. It will also cover the proposed overdraft and NSF regulations proposed by the CFPB, explaining what these rules would require and who they would apply to if passed. The webinar will conclude with thoughts on how to navigate this web of guidance and requirements, along with some thoughts on what this might mean to financial institutions when they establish the types and amounts of fees to charge to consumers.

Program Topics

  • Review and explanation of CFPB “junk fee” guidance
  • Discussion of the proposed Attorney General junk fee regulation
  • Review of existing rules that establish guardrails around fee types and amounts
  • Analysis of the CFPB’s proposed overdraft regulation
  • Discussion of the CFPB’s proposed NSF rule
  • Thoughts on account pricing considerations
