Program Overview
Mass Bankers presents the 2024 CFO & Financial Managers Forum. Join us to discuss emerging issues and industry hot topics and network with other bank financial managers. This series of forums meets three times during the year. Each session will focus on two topics presented by industry experts. Participants will gain valuable insights on emerging issues and trends in the financial industry, explore methods to improve financial function efficiency, and learn best practices in bank financial management.

<p style="line-height:115%;text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;line-height:115%;">Ben Schexnayder is ALM First’s Director of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and is responsible for the design and implementation of the firm’s new ERM service line. As a risk management professional with over 15 years of experience serving financial institutions, Ben uses industry best practices to help clients develop and maintain processes for managing risks to minimize unexpected performance variance and maximize stakeholder value. Previously, Ben served as Director of Risk Advisory and an Enterprise Risk Manager for a financial service holding company and also served as a Senior Risk Consultant for Crowe, LLP. Ben earned both a Master’s degree and Bachelor’s degree in accounting from Louisiana State University. He is also a Certified Fraud Examiner and a Certified Internal Auditor.</span></span></p>

In his role as Director, John is supported by our internal team as he develops holistic partnerships with clients to develop successful balance sheet strategies that maximize performance. This includes interpretation of full balance sheet risk analytics and risk positioning to determine the best opportunities for each client to achieve their financial goals. Prior to joining ALM First, John worked for Detalus Advisors for 18 years. During his tenure at Detalus, he served in a variety of roles including Managing Director during his ownership period. Most recently, he served as Senior Portfolio Manager after the divestiture of his ownership. Detalus managed approximately $2 billion of fixed income investments for client banks and insurance companies. Prior to joining Detalus, and after a 2-year stint at a regional broker/dealer, John served as the Chief Investment Officer for Firstbank of Illinois in Springfield, IL. John holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Indiana University – Kelly School of Business. John is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.</span></span></p>

Ireland, CFP®, is a senior strategist of business development at MFS Investment Management® (MFS®). In this role, she helps financial advisors and other intermediaries grow their practices by sharing thought leadership and practice management content.Karen joined MFS in 2015. Before that, she worked at Pioneer Investments for eight years, most recently as the practice management director, and also as a senior product manager and national retirement strategies consultant. She previously served as a senior analyst at Cerulli Associates for three years and as a senior internal wholesaler at Sun Life Distributors, Inc. for four years. She began her career in the financial services industry in 1999, when she joined Manulife Financial as a key accounts annuity service specialist. Karen earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Gustavus Adolphus College.
